The Theodore Illusion
Page by page, Non-stop Suspense.
Title: The Theodore Illusion
Author: Michael Joachim
Genre: Thriller/Sci-Fi
Those who have been closely following events of the past decade in Nigeria's struggle with terrorism and other security challenges will get e thrill reading the story of Lieutenant Diogu who in this book is the protagonist. His platoon being set up has just been obliterated. He is the sole survivor who must now return to his superiors at the HQ for debriefing and psych evaluation. The problem with this is, what his eyes saw in the battle that killed all his comrades isn't something anyone is used to. It wasn't a regular combat. The weapons are strange, the enemy tactics are unusual. So much so, that there's no way he could explain his experience without sounding like he has gone wacko.
His superiors have a laugh as he explains his ordeals and decide to place him in compulsory leave to have him regain his sanity. But Diogu isn't one to back down when his country needs him. He plunges himself into a civil unrest that results in the death of an innocent civilian and from there things go downhill for him. Tragedy after tragedy outs him in direct collision with the leader of the terror cell who feels they have scores to settle.
It's quite interesting how the author manages to blend in elements of time travel and afrofuturism into the plot. While that aspect begs for a little smoother blending, Michael Joachim in The Theodore Illusion succeeds in delivering page by page non-stop suspense till the end and that's all every thriller fan care for.
